Wow! What an incredible journey so far! Today is Election Day in The Village of Belmont. Before the results come in tomorrow, I wanted to give a recap of what I have been working on for the village so far.
I announced my candidacy just over 4 weeks ago, on February 12th. Since then I have been overwhelmed with the support I have received from neighbors and friends on all sides. Whichever way this turns out, the experience was great! I will learn tomorrow of the results.
I have been attending village board meetings to observe and see how decisions are made. I notice that village residents rarely attend any meetings. This may be due simply to communication. I wish to form a better method of communications to residents, like more social media posts, and a bi-weekly newsletter with updates, welcoming new village residents, pointing out community events, along with changemakers and local businesses. This would also be a resource linking to agendas, meeting minutes and elections on announcements.
I really enjoyed talking with local residents, new and OGs. I was able to ask the village to find a way to put out garbage receptacles at the fishing area near the falls, and this was completed by our crew within a day.
I was also asked by Mayor DeTine to Chair a committee for planning the 250th Anniversary Celebration in Belmont. I happily accepted and thanked him for the honor of doing so. I am currently working on plans for an All County Veterans Organization Parade with a family friendly picnic to follow at The Belmont Legion. I have reach out to other community organizational leaders to join this so we can join forces and have an all inclusive event. I will be meeting with several Veterans services and organizations in the next two weeks to start the coordination of this. I also interested in procuring a mural somewhere in the village to commemorate this. Updates will be shared as this progresses.

Another item that was brought to my attention, was relooking at allowing the use of Limited Use Vehicles and ATVs the Town and Village. Most other towns and villages , including Angelica have done this. They have permits, safety and registration requirements, and laws that govern with hefty fines for violations. This brings business to the Village, and will compete with other localities for sales tax dollars and revenue. You can see a copy of the local trail maps below and here is a link to the law in Angelica governing this.
I spoke with the Village Clerk there, and asked her if she had any knowledge of any problems since they have adapted this. She said, "None, whatsoever."
The noise would be no more than most the "coal rolling" trucks that go through the village, and you can see below that being in the center of the county, this would connect all neighboring trails and could serve as a hub for all recreational trails.

In closing, I want to thank my family, neighbors and friends for their support during this campaign. I also want to thank my opponents, Vince Evans and Linda Healy for keeping this a clean and fair race.
